Separate custody from the interface

Connecting a wallet does not prove that play is non-custodial. Trace each step: token approval, deposit, wager settlement and withdrawal. Identify which funds remain in your wallet, which enter a contract and which an operator can freeze or move. Revoke unnecessary approvals after use and never sign an unread transaction.

Verify provably-fair evidence yourself

A provably-fair label is useful only when the game publishes the commitment, player input, revealed value and reproducible algorithm for each result. Run the verifier on sample rounds and check that inputs match the wager record. This can test result generation; it does not prove solvency, lawful operation or reliable withdrawals.

Review contract and governance risk

Check whether contract code is verified, recently audited and upgradeable. Identify administrator keys, pause functions, oracles and who can change fees or game logic. An audit is scoped evidence from a date, not a guarantee. Unresolved critical findings, hidden code or unrestricted controls should change the risk assessment.

Locate legal and human recourse

Record the legal entity, applicable gambling permission, governing terms and support route. Automation does not remove responsibility for account errors, compromised keys, sanctions checks or disputed outcomes. If no accountable entity, regulator or workable support channel can be identified, understand that technical transparency may coexist with very limited recovery options.

On-chain transparency does not remove gambling harm. Set limits in ordinary currency, avoid unlimited token approvals, never chase losses and use available time-outs or self-exclusion. If controls are absent, reduce exposure or do not play.

On-chain does not mean on the record

A transparent bet history and a working complaint route are different things. On a decentralised platform the wager and the payout are verifiable, but there may be no licensed entity to instruct a payout, no regulator to escalate to and no registered office to serve. When access is lost — a wallet, a key, a seized front end — recovery depends on the protocol, not on an ombudsman.

Before depositing, decide which of those risks you accept. Verifiable fairness answers the question of whether the game was honest; it answers nothing about whether anyone is obliged to pay you.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does wallet connection mean non-custodial play? +
No. Follow where funds move and who can control or freeze them during every stage.
What does provably fair prove? +
A reproducible scheme can show that a recorded result followed disclosed inputs and logic. It does not prove licensing, solvency or payment conduct.
Does a smart-contract audit remove risk? +
No. Read its date, scope, findings, later code changes and administrator powers; undiscovered faults and operational risks remain possible.
