Know what play-money mode represents
Play-money chips have no cash value and cannot be withdrawn or sold as winnings. Play-money results do not predict real-money outcomes. The mode can make it easier to learn turn order, hand rankings, betting controls and settlement, but participants may treat free chips differently from money, so table behaviour may not resemble paid play.
Match the exact poker variant
Community-card poker, draw poker and video poker use different decisions and objectives. Even games with similar names can change deck rules, wild cards, betting rounds, limits or payout tables. Read the help screen and paytable for the exact version before practising; lessons from one ruleset do not automatically transfer to another.
Practise a decision, not an outcome
Choose one skill for a session: reading the action, remembering hand order, using a chart or checking the paytable. Review whether the decision matched the chosen rule without judging it only by the next card or payout. A correct choice can lose and an incorrect one can win in a short sample, so results alone are poor feedback.
Keep session controls in free mode
Free mode can still consume attention and encourage rapid repetition. Set a session purpose and end time, pause between hands, hide or reduce automatic rebuy if possible, and stop when concentration drops. If considering money play later, make that choice after a break with a separate budget rather than converting a virtual-chip run into a stake decision.
